Tribes of India: The Meena tribe
One of the many tribes in India is the Meena tribe. According to the myths, legends, and oral history, the Meenas have descended from the Matsya avatar or the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Once ruled the former kingdoms of Jaipur and Alwar, forming an important part of the history of Rajasthan, and were by and large an agricultural community. Meena caste is considered to be one of the oldest castes in India.
Festivals, music, songs, and dances are evidence that these Mina cultures and traditions are very alive. All Hindu festivals are celebrated, but they incorporate their own local rituals. For instance, Day 7 of Navaratri is a celebration of the Mina tribe, where they perform acrobatics and rejoice in sword fights and dances. Many festivals are celebrated by the Mina tribe. The main languages spoken include Hindi language, Mewari, Marwari language, Dhundri, Harauti, Malvi, Garhwali, and Bhili.
How Meenas dress is also particular. They dress according to their age, their marital status, and, of course, their gender. Such as the married women wearing 'Borla' on the middle of their heads along with 'Chooda' in their hands.
Tribes have their own distinct system of culture, social structure, polity, economy, and education in various spheres of life. by studying different tribes, we can formulate and undertake projects and research for the promotion of tribal art, culture, tradition, and heritage and their preservation and promotion; to undertake projects for improving agricultural and horticultural productivity of tribal people; to organize training programs for economic empowerment of the tribal people and in turn, contribute towards the development of the society as a whole.
