Tribes of India: The Meena tribe

One of the many tribes in India is the Meena tribe. According to the myths, legends, and oral history, the Meenas have descended from the  Matsya avatar or the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. O nce ruled the former kingdoms of Jaipur and Alwar, forming an important part of the history of Rajasthan, and were by and large an agricultural community.  Meena caste is considered to be one of the oldest castes in India. Festivals, music, songs, and dances are evidence that these Mina cultures and traditions are very alive. All Hindu festivals are celebrated, but they incorporate their own local rituals. For instance, Day 7 of Navaratri is a celebration of the Mina tribe, where they perform acrobatics and rejoice in sword fights and dances. Many festivals are celebrated by the Mina tribe. The Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) in the movie struggles to live in modern industrial society with the help of a young homeless woman. Poverty is showcased in many instances like when ellen runs away after stealing bread, or when the three burglars attack the departmental store, due to the lack of any means to buy basic necessities. This is a social issue that highlights the economic instability of the people and the country. Strikes are initiated by people to bring reforms and address social issues. The movie showcases people joining strikes to demonstrate communalism to address and stand against the capitalism that had arisen along with industrialization.
